The Portobello America project consisted of the delivery of a large-scale porcelain tile manufacturing facility on a greenfield site in Baxter, Tennessee. T.W. Frierson’s scope was comprehensive and included site development, mass grading, concrete foundations and slabs, and construction of a pre-engineered metal building system spanning nearly one million square feet. The project required extensive coordination of structural systems, building envelope components, and large-volume material deliveries to support the scale and complexity of a modern manufacturing operation.
In addition to core building construction, T.W. Frierson managed the integration of owner-furnished manufacturing equipment and specialized building elements required to support production. This included structural accommodations for equipment, rooftop systems, and custom architectural features at the main entry. Throughout the project, the team navigated site constraints, schedule pressures, and supply chain challenges while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and constructability to deliver a facility designed to support long-term manufacturing operations.
